Pretty confusing yes.In general, 3 different systems are used: metric (mm), UK (numbers) and US (numbers and letters). When working with a new yarn or crochet hook, it is always good to fist make a smal test swatch, to see if the combination of yarn and hook, create the effect you are looking for.
